Lions Kidney Educational Centre and Research Foundation(1991)

The Lions Kidney Educational Centre and Research Foundation (LKEC) was founded by the Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao, and the Sisters of Precious Blood Hospital. It aims to educate the public in preventing kidney diseases and to provide low-cost quality Haemodialysis services for patients with financial difficulties. Due to the limited funding, lack of manpower, insufficient medical equipment, the Lions Kidney Educational Centre jointly established by the 303 District and the Kowloon Blood Hospital can help alleviate the tension in the medical treatment of kidney disease in Hong Kong. With the sponsorship, the hospital bought a batch of advanced medical equipment. The Opening Ceremony of the Lions Kidney Educational Centre under the Lions Clubs International District 303 – Hong Kong & Macao was held at the Precious Blood Hospital on June 6, 1991. The Lions Club International Foundation Committee Chairman Joseph H. B. Sin of District 303, the Immediate Past International President William L. Woolard and 303 District Governor Wing-kun Tam presided over the opening ceremony. The first “LKEC Precious Blood Hospital (Caritas) Renal Dialysis Centre” was officially opened on September 8, 1991 to provide citizens with low-cost services. Later, the center was moved to Sham Shui Po in April 2009, covering an area of over 1,500 square feet with 12 Haemodialysis machines. The second renal dialysis centre - Chan Wong Sau Wah Memorial Renal Dialysis Centre with 18 Haemodialysis machines was completed on June 9, 2000 in Sham Shui Po. The third one equipped with with 10 Haemodialysis machines and situated at Sham Shui Po, was put into service in July 2010. And installed with 10 Haemodialysis machines, the fourth one at Tai Po also started to serve the public in July 2017.
