Hong Kong has won the bid to host the
Lions Clubs International Convention in 2005. It competed with New Orleans
and Sydney to win this bid, deemed important because it symbolises
international confidence after the handover. Lions Clubs International
District 303 backed this bid to hold the event with support from the
Government, Hong Kong Tourist Association, chambers of commerce,
hoteliers, travel agencies and other service industries.

This will be the second time in 13
years that Hong Kong has hosted the convention with the last held in 1992,
attracted 25,000 participants and boosted tourism by $500 million. It is
expected the 2005 convention to be the biggest ever held in Hong Kong
which will secure more than 30,000 delegates from around the world and
bring in about $1 billion in foreign exchange receipts.
